The Black Sheep are one of the lesser known groups of the Infamous Native Tongue crew. Their First full studio album ‘A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing’ takes on similar styles and morals as their more famous cousins with Intelligent lyrics that take take on heavy on issues in a positive or humorous way such as ‘U Mean I’m Not’, the values promoting ‘Flavour of The Month’ or the classic style in ‘The Choice Is Yours’ (which the now famous Engine Engine number 9 verse was later sampled by Fatman Scoop). Although i don’t think The Black Sheep is for everyone [...]
Mos Def has been one of my favourite Hip Hop artists for a long time now. In my eyes he is a one man Tribe Called Quest: Intelligent, Positive, Socially aware and executes his impactual rhymes over Blues, Jazz and Rock inspired production. His tracks are always about real issues, ‘Mathematics’ gives us a series of linked rhymes about the statistics and percentages in the struggle of being the lowest common denominator, his collaboration CD with Talib Kweli ‘Black Star’ was mainly focused on the bad side of Hip Hop and the gangster image [...]
Drop The Lime was by far the best performance I saw at Stereosonic and I am kicking myself that I missed his more intimate performance at Chinese Laundry on the weekend. His hard hitting bassline style is unique in a genre that are normally is reserved to looping a heavy bassline for 3 ½ mins. His mixing skills were also as unique and amazing as his production, playing heavy hitters, crowd pleasers and even a bit of old school rock and roll with confidence of a true CDJ master.
One song stuck in my mind [...]

We are lucky enough to get an interview with Sam Stephenson, Lead singer of Fisherking. He discusses his musical influences, the writing process, and what it was like to win the Triple J Unearthed FUSE Festival Competition. Interview conducted by Erin Fouracre.
What’s your musical background?
I’ve always been fascinated with music and playing in bands, playing in Church for a good many years, but in terms of formal training I studied music for the HSC and then went on to study music at university and do a bachelor of music.
What are your musical influences?
In terms of other musicians… I think from [...]
Over the last few months I have been digging deeper through the crates (of wikipedia) trying to find something old that i am yet to hear to get me inspired. It’s hard to beleive there was a time when mainstream rap and hip hop wasn’t about Money, Chains and Skeet Skeet Skeet. There are artists forgotten to the mainstream ‘Gangsta’ image who shaped near perfect music with nothing but their simple beats and real life lyrics that people growing up in their era could actually relate to. I honestly don’t know anyone who can rep having platinum teeth, [...]
Gregory Fouracre was twelve when the new Status Quo rock vinyl was released. Its album art was edgy, it promised a fresh and funky boogie rock sound, and he knew he had to have it. Taking on an after-school job, Greg squirreled aside his pay for weeks until finally he could afford it. Pulling the vinyl from its waxy plastic sleeve, Greg delicately placed it on the record player. The Status Quo’s psychedelic-flavoured 1967 single ‘Pictures of Matchstick Men’ permeated his bedroom, and eventually crackled to repeat.
Forty-something years later his daughter sits in front of her Macbook [...]
In case you have been living under a rock for the last few years you may have missed out on melbourne trio The Midnight Juggernauts and with a new album on the rise and a new tour starting this october, now is a better time than ever to get into these genre smashing juggernauts.
The juggernauts first grabbed my attention in 2007 with thier first major studio album Dystopia. It was a amazing mix of indie rock, electro and with psychedelic lyrics that not only made you dance but also took you on a journey not seen [...]
After Black Holes and Revelations, fans of Muse were left in anticipation with the release of their fifth album The Resistance. The sound of The Resistance is a unique and different sound but i would be lying though if i said it didnt have a strong Queen sound to it. The album opens with the “Uprising” which gets the album going straight into what we our ears are used to hearing from Muse, a straight forward pop rock tune. Followed by “The resistance”, you can really feel the muse, their trademark sounding and layout of a song, it is similar to Knights of Cydonia with its galloping-like song, exploding [...]
